Misurina is a lovely alpine village, a magnificent part of the municipality of Auronzo at the foot of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo mountain range. The harsh climate with heavy snowfall provides excellent natural snow cover. The ski resort offers skiers a chair lift and a ski lift. A chairlift will take skiers to the Col de Varda at an altitude of 2,220 m, from where five scenic trails of varying difficulty begin, continuing through the middle of the forest. A view of the Cristallo group opens from above. Skilft rises in the area of Lake Antorno to an altitude of 1870 meters. Leut Ski School is located next to large car parks and is the starting point for ski runs.
The cross-country skiing track consists of three panoramic loops (1 difficult 7 km, 1 medium 5 km, 1 green 2 km). In Palus San Marco, halfway between Auronzo and Misurina, is the Somadida forest, a famous cross-country skiing destination. Other Misurina offers are also interesting: night skiing, ski mountaineering, snowmobiling or dog sledding, ice skating. It hosts the very popular winter polo competition on a frozen lake, culminating in an international tournament.
Mizurina is surrounded by the majestic dolomite peaks Piz Popena (3152 m), Kristallino (2775 m – the Kristalllo group), the aforementioned Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Sorapis (3205 m), Kadini and Marmarol. About 6 km from Misurina is Monte Piana (2324 m), a place from which you can admire the eastern Dolomites up to the Valle Aurina glaciers. You can get to Misurina from Cortina d’Ampezzo via the Tre Croci pass, from Auronzo via Val d’Ansiei and from Val Pusteria rising from Carbonene.
A well-known legend tells of Misurin, the daughter of a giant, King Sorapis. A very capricious girl demanded that her father give her an “all-knowing” mirror that belonged to the fairy from Monte Cristallo. The fairy offered a deal: she would give the mirror only if the king agrees to turn into a mountain. The king loved his daughter so much that he agreed. As soon as Mizurina grabbed the mirror, King Sorapis underwent a transformation. Only then did the girl become desperate, she suddenly felt dizzy, and she fell with the mirror. From the almost dull eyes of Sorapis warm tears flowed, from which Lake Misurina was formed.
