The Etna Sud – Nicolosi resort is located in the Italian province of Catania in the Sicily region (provincia di Catania regione Sicilia). There are 6.3 km of trails for skiing and snowboarding. 5 lifts transport skiers. The winter sports complex is located between 1910 and 2604 meters above sea level.

Skiing on the active Mount Etna is undoubtedly an exciting and unique experience. There are two areas on Etna: Nicolosi in the south between 1910-2700 meters and the Piani di Provenzana – Linguaglossa area on the northern side of Etna between 1800-2317 meters above sea level.

The first ski area is larger in size, it stretches from Nicolosi to 2700 meters in Montagnola and includes a six-seater gondola-type cable car, a two-seater chair lift and 3 drag bars that lift 3 red and one blue slope .

This place, thanks to the 6-seater gondola lift, is a favorite tourist destination, as it is the starting point for visiting the summit craters of Mount Etna. The ski resort suffered severe damage from the 2001 and 2002 eruptions, which severely damaged several cable cars and some buildings. Today the resort has been completely renovated. Its landscape is characterized by the absence of tall vegetation, which gives the area an almost lunar appearance. The slopes offer views of the Gulf of Catania and the Ionian Sea. From Mount Montagnola, overlooking the summit of the volcano in the north, you can admire the smoking craters on the mountain tops: the southeastern crater and the central crater (Bocca Nuova).
