Resort Via Lattea – Sestriere/Sauze d’Oulx/San Sicario/Claviere/Monginevro is located in the Italian province of Turin in the Piemonte region and Arrondissement di Briançon France, Provenza-Alpi-Costa Azzurra, department of Alte Alpi. For skiing and snowboarding, 400 km of trails are laid, to which 63 lifts transport skiers. The winter sports complex is located between 1 372 and 2 789 meters above sea level and stretches from the Italian Sestriere to the French Montginevre.
Sestriere became a ski resort in 1934 thanks to the Italian automobile concern FIAT and its founder Giovanni Agnele and turned out to be the first ski resort in Italy. This village has become a resting place for workers from a factory in Turin.
Since the 2006 Winter Olympic Games were held in Turin, the cross-border resort Via Lattea (Milky Way) has received a strong impetus in development, it has been rebuilt, enlarged and refined with prestigious hotels and restaurants. The Italian side of Sestriere lies in the heart of the Milky Way.
Trails from the slopes surrounding the town from all sides end right in the center of this typical alpine town, as if descended from Christmas cards. The slopes are varied, there are short and simple, there are also difficult ones with obstacles and large slope angles, but they are all well-groomed and safe. Some of them are laid above the border of vegetation, some pass through alpine coniferous forests, and some among evergreen trees. In all parts of the resort you can find wide long slopes that lead from the peaks straight into the valleys, it is a real pleasure to ride on them!
