The resort of Gressoney-Saint-Jean – Weismatten is located in Italy on the Monte Rosa region of Valle d’Aosta. There are 12 km of trails for skiing and snowboarding. 2 ski lifts transport skiers on them. The winter sports zone is located at an altitude of 1348 to 2023 meters above sea level.

The Gressoney ski resort is located at the foot of the Monte Rosa mountain range, which separates Italy and Switzerland with its 14 four-thousanders. Eight centuries ago, the valley was inhabited by representatives of the Germanic Walser people who moved from the northern valley of the Vallese. To this day, local residents adhere to their traditions: they speak in an almost incomprehensible old Germanic dialect, dress in national costumes and live in houses in the “stadel” style. There are two main villages in the valley: Gressoney-La-Trinité (1637 m) and Gressoney-Saint-Jean (1387 m). Gressoney is connected by lifts and slopes with the village of Alanya in Piedmont on the one hand and with the famous resort of Champoluc on the other. This whole region with a single ski pass is called Monterosa Ski. The longest track stretches from Passo Salati to Gressoney for 14 km. In terms of difficulty, it belongs to the red, like the vast majority of local routes. Very good pistes are located directly above Gressoney. Especially noteworthy is the magnificent black, coming from Punta Jolanda (2278 m).

Next to Gressoney Saint-Jean are the famous slopes that run through the old Swiss pine forest, Weissmatten.

There are many off-piste routes in Gressoney, including for heli-skiing. They start even higher than the highest lift station at Punta Indren (3260 m). One of the ski tour options for freeride lovers consists of a bunch of off-piste slopes with stops in huts and has a total length of 70 km.

On Monte Rosa, almost at the top of Punta Gnifetti (4559 m), there is the highest shelter in Western Europe (4554 m). It is named in honor of the Queen of Italy Margaret of Savoy (1851-1926), who was fond of mountaineering and climbed the surrounding peaks. The Savoy Castle, near Gressoney Saint-Jean, was built in the late 19th century as the summer residence of Queen Margaret.

Next to Gressoney Saint-Jean is the picturesque Gover Lake. In winter, it turns into an ice rink, and there are cross-country skiing trails around the lake.
